Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2021
This bill establishes a voluntary assisted dying scheme in Queensland, giving eligible adults who are suffering from a terminal condition the legal right to choose the timing and manner of their death with medical assistance. It caps annual site rent increases at the higher of CPI or 3.5 per cent, bans market rent reviews, creates a buyback scheme for unsold homes, and introduces new transparency requirements for park operators. The reforms respond to concerns from approximately 38,000 home owners across 203 residential parks in Queensland.
Liquor (Rural Hotels Concession) Amendment Bill 2018
This bill cuts liquor licence fees by 90% for pubs located in very remote parts of Queensland. It recognises that hotels in remote communities are often the only social gathering place and struggle financially due to small populations and seasonal income fluctuations.
Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Bill 2022
This bill repeals and replaces Queensland's births, deaths and marriages registration law. It removes the requirement for surgery to change a person's recorded sex, allows same-sex parents to both use matching titles on birth certificates, streamlines registry services, and strengthens name change fraud prevention. It also adds new anti-discrimination protections for intersex people.
Trusts Bill 2025
This bill replaces Queensland's Trusts Act 1973 with modernised legislation that clarifies the powers and duties of trustees, makes it easier to replace trustees who die or become incapacitated, and gives beneficiaries clearer rights to see how their trust is being managed. It broadly implements recommendations from the Queensland Law Reform Commission's comprehensive 2012-2013 review of trust law.
