This bill significantly expands the role of Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) to tackle Queensland's housing shortage. It makes delivering social and affordable housing a core part of EDQ's mandate, gives EDQ new powers to acquire land and direct infrastructure delivery, and restructures EDQ as a more independent body with its own board, CEO, and employing office.
Help to Buy (Commonwealth Powers) Bill 2024
This bill gives the Commonwealth Parliament the power it needs to establish the Help to Buy shared equity scheme in Queensland. The scheme will help up to 10,000 low to middle income Australians per year buy a home with as little as a 2 per cent deposit, with the Commonwealth contributing up to 40 per cent of the purchase price for new homes and 30 per cent for existing homes.
Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024
This bill clarifies and simplifies Queensland's security of payment framework for the building and construction industry, which protects subcontractors from late or non-payment through project trust accounts and retention trust accounts. It also implements governance reforms for the QBCC and makes minor improvements to licensing and regulatory processes across six Acts.
Appropriation Bill 2024
This bill authorises the Queensland Government to spend $90.4 billion in 2024-25 to fund all state government departments and services. It also provides $45.2 billion in interim supply for early 2025-26 and retrospectively authorises $6.15 billion in unforeseen expenditure from the previous year.
