Liquid Fuel Supply (Ethanol and Other Biofuels Mandate) Amendment Bill 2015

This bill creates Queensland's first mandatory biofuels targets, requiring larger fuel retailers to ensure 2 per cent of their regular petrol sales are ethanol or other biobased petrol, and fuel wholesalers to ensure 0.5 per cent of diesel sales are biodiesel or other renewable diesel. The mandate is designed to grow Queensland's biofuels industry, create regional jobs, and cut transport emissions while protecting consumer choice by excluding premium unleaded petrol from the target.

Liquid Fuel Supply (Ethanol and Other Biofuels Mandate) Amendment Bill 2026

This bill strengthens Queensland's ethanol and biofuels mandate by setting enforceable minimum biofuel content levels for petrol and diesel, increasing penalties for non-compliance, and requiring E10 octane ratings to be displayed at fuel pumps. It responds to concerns that the existing mandate has not been effectively enforced due to broad exemptions and loopholes.

Liquid Fuel Supply (Minimum Biobased Petrol Content) Amendment Bill 2022

This bill sought to strengthen Queensland's ethanol mandate, which has never been met since it was introduced in 2017. It would have doubled penalties for fuel retailers not selling enough ethanol-blended petrol and required that E10 fuel contain at least 9% ethanol rather than the federally permitted minimum of just 1%. The bill was defeated at second reading and did not become law.
