Education (Accreditation of Non-State Schools) Bill 2017

Education (Overseas Students) Bill 2017

Trading (Allowable Hours) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2022

Child Protection and Education Legislation (Reporting of Abuse) Amendment Bill 2017

This bill would have required ministers of religion who work with or are associated with a school to report suspected child sexual abuse to police. It amended the Child Protection Act 1999 and the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006 in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. The bill lapsed at the end of the 55th Parliament and did not become law.

Anti-Discrimination (Right to Use Gender-Specific Language) Amendment Bill 2018

This bill sought to amend Queensland's Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 to make it unlawful to penalise someone for using traditional binary gender language like 'he', 'she', 'Mr', 'Mrs', 'husband' or 'wife'. It also aimed to protect organisations from being disadvantaged for only providing male/female facilities. Introduced by Mr R Katter MP, the bill failed at the second reading and did not become law.

Grammar Schools Bill 2016

This bill replaces Queensland's 1975 grammar schools law with modern legislation covering the eight grammar schools at Brisbane, Ipswich, Rockhampton, Toowoomba and Townsville. It modernises board governance, cuts financial red tape, and permanently closes the door on new grammar schools being created.

Health and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2016

This bill makes a set of changes across health, research and criminal law. It equalises Queensland's age of consent at 16 for all sexual activity, gives GPs access to hospital records through a system called The Viewer, streamlines research use of patient data, lets schools share student details with immunisation and dental providers, and frees QIMR Berghofer to pay research bonuses up to $10 million a year without Cabinet approval.

Working with Children Legislation (Indigenous Communities) Amendment Bill 2017

This bill would have let Community Justice Groups in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities recommend that a local person be issued a blue card to work with children in their own community, even if a past non-sexual conviction would normally block one. The card would be valid only in that community. The bill was introduced by Mr Robbie Katter MP and lapsed at the end of the 55th Parliament, so it did not become law.

Child Safe Organisations Bill 2024

Education (Queensland College of Teachers) Amendment Bill 2019

This bill creates a formal certification process so experienced Queensland teachers can be officially recognised as highly accomplished or lead teachers.
