Bills Introduced by Mr Robbie Katter MP

Criminal Code (Defence of Dwellings and Other Premises—Castle Law) Amendment Bill 2026

This bill amends Queensland's Criminal Code to enshrine 'castle law' principles, giving homeowners and occupiers broader legal protection when using force against intruders. It extends the existing self-defence provision beyond dwellings to cover other premises such as vehicles, caravans and tents, and expands the circumstances in which potentially lethal force may lawfully be used. It was introduced as a private member's bill following the largest e-petition in Queensland history, with 113,380 signatures.

Rural and Regional Adjustment (Development Assistance) Amendment Bill 2016

This bill proposed turning the Queensland Rural Adjustment Authority into a new Rural and Industries Development Bank with the power to borrow money, lend commercially, and restructure debts for farmers and rural businesses. Introduced as a private member's bill by Mr R Katter MP, it was later discharged and did not become law.

Liquor (Rural Hotels Concession) Amendment Bill 2017

This bill proposed a 90% discount on liquor licence fees for pubs in very remote parts of Queensland. It was introduced by Katter's Australian Party MP Robbie Katter to support struggling rural hotels that act as social hubs in small communities. The bill lapsed and did not become law.

Summary Offences (Protection of the Australian Flag) Amendment Bill 2026

This bill creates a new criminal offence for burning an Australian flag in a public place where the conduct is likely to provoke public disorder, intimidate people, or cause significant offence to the community. It is a private member's bill introduced by Mr R Katter MP.

Vegetation Management (Clearing for Relevant Purposes) Amendment Bill 2018

This bill sought to amend the Vegetation Management Act 1999 to allow graziers to apply for vegetation clearing permits for feed production, and to give landholders a right to appeal when their clearing applications are rejected. It was a private member's bill introduced by Robbie Katter MP that failed at the second reading stage and did not become law.

Liquor (Rural Hotels Concession) Amendment Bill 2018

This bill cuts liquor licence fees by 90% for pubs located in very remote parts of Queensland. It recognises that hotels in remote communities are often the only social gathering place and struggle financially due to small populations and seasonal income fluctuations.

Honourable Angelo Vasta (Reversal of Removal) Bill 2017

This bill aimed to reverse the Queensland Parliament's 1989 removal of Justice Angelo Vasta from the Supreme Court. It would have declared that removal invalid and treated him as having retired instead. The bill lapsed and did not become law.

Anti-Discrimination (Right to Use Gender-Specific Language) Amendment Bill 2018

This bill sought to amend Queensland's Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 to make it unlawful to penalise someone for using traditional binary gender language like 'he', 'she', 'Mr', 'Mrs', 'husband' or 'wife'. It also aimed to protect organisations from being disadvantaged for only providing male/female facilities. Introduced by Mr R Katter MP, the bill failed at the second reading and did not become law.

Working with Children Legislation (Indigenous Communities) Amendment Bill 2018

This bill proposed giving Indigenous Community Justice Groups the power to approve Blue Cards (working with children checks) for community members who would otherwise be denied due to certain non-sexual criminal offences such as stealing, burglary, and drug offences. It was a private member's bill introduced by Mr R Katter MP. The bill's second reading failed and it did not become law.

Transport Legislation (Taxi Services) Amendment Bill 2015

This bill adds demerit points to the traffic history of anyone caught providing a taxi service without a licence or peak demand taxi permit. It was introduced as a private member's bill in 2015 to crack down on unlicensed operators (including early ride-share services) that the sponsor said were undermining the regulated taxi industry.

Working with Children Legislation (Indigenous Communities) Amendment Bill 2017

This bill would have let Community Justice Groups in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities recommend that a local person be issued a blue card to work with children in their own community, even if a past non-sexual conviction would normally block one. The card would be valid only in that community. The bill was introduced by Mr Robbie Katter MP and lapsed at the end of the 55th Parliament, so it did not become law.

Electoral (Improving Representation) and Another Act Amendment Bill 2015

This bill proposed to increase the size of Queensland's Parliament from 89 to 93 members and change how top appointments to the Electoral Commission of Queensland are made. It was a private member's bill introduced by Mr Katter MP that failed at the second reading stage and did not become law.

Working with Children (Indigenous Communities) Amendment Bill 2021

This bill would have created a new Blue Card framework giving Indigenous community justice groups the power to recommend restricted working with children clearances for people in their communities. It aimed to address chronic unemployment in remote Indigenous communities where the standard Blue Card system's inflexibility prevents people with certain past offences from accessing employment, even when the local community considers them safe. The bill's second reading was defeated and it did not become law.

Mount Isa Mines Limited Agreement (Continuing Mining Activities) Amendment Bill 2024

This bill lapsed and did not become law. It was a private member's bill introduced by Mr R Katter MP in response to Glencore's announcement that it would close the Mount Isa copper mine, cutting around 1,200 jobs. The bill sought to amend the 1985 agreement between Queensland and Mount Isa Mines Limited to prevent the company from ceasing copper mining without government approval.
