Disaster Management and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024
This bill restructures Queensland's fire and emergency services by splitting the former Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) into two dedicated services — Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR) for urban firefighting and Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) for bushfire management and rural brigades. It also strengthens disaster management coordination by clarifying the Police Commissioner's role, creating new recovery coordination positions, and expanding the Queensland Reconstruction Authority's functions. Additionally, it requires smoke alarms in all registered caravans and motorised caravans.
Civil Liability (Institutional Child Abuse) Amendment Bill 2018

Emergency Services Reform Amendment Bill 2023
This bill restructures Queensland's emergency services by transferring the State Emergency Service and marine rescue functions from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services to the Queensland Police Service. It establishes a new State Disaster Management Group chaired by the Premier to provide faster strategic oversight during disasters, and makes consequential amendments across more than 20 pieces of legislation to ensure workers' compensation, civil liability protections, and Blue Card requirements continue for volunteers.

Civil Liability (Holding Institutions Accountable for Child Abuse) Amendment Bill 2026
This bill closes a legal loophole that prevented survivors of institutional child abuse from holding institutions accountable when their abuser was not a formal employee. It responds to the High Court's 2024 decision in Bird v DP, which ruled that vicarious liability only applies to employment relationships, by extending it to persons in relationships akin to employment, such as religious clergy, volunteers, and contractors.
National Injury Insurance Scheme (Queensland) Bill 2016
This bill creates a no-fault insurance scheme that pays for lifetime treatment, care and support for people catastrophically injured in Queensland motor vehicle accidents, regardless of who caused the crash. It sets up a new agency and fund paid for by a levy on CTP insurance premiums, and applies to serious injuries suffered from 1 July 2016 onwards.
Limitation of Actions and Other Legislation (Child Abuse Civil Proceedings) Amendment Bill
This bill would have removed time limits on civil lawsuits for child abuse, allowing survivors to sue institutions no matter how long ago the abuse happened. It also let survivors undo past settlements forced by expiring deadlines, stopped institutions from getting cases dismissed over delays they themselves caused, and restored jury trials for these cases. The bill failed at the second reading and did not become law.
Civil Liability and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2018
This bill implements key recommendations from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. It shifts the burden of proof so institutions must show they took reasonable steps to prevent child sexual abuse, and creates a legal framework so survivors can identify and sue the right defendant even when the responsible institution is unincorporated or has changed over time.
